Having toured South East Asia a number of times over the past decade, I still find it most convenient to make Bangkok my initial destination when flying from the UK. Choice of airline is an important factor with such mileage involved and most of the world’s major airlines use Bangkok as both a hub and stopover city, so one can take ones time to decide which one is best for them.

Then comes accommodation. Bangkok is a Mecca for many international hotel chains with all star ratings. The choice here is really bewildering but…experiencing the quality, standard and value of many and considering those important issues, I can hone-in on one in particular, which offers all three.

Not only is the Rembrandt Hotel located in one of the city’s most popular districts Sukhumvit Road – with its plethora of shopping malls and overhead MRT rail system – it sports just about everything the Silver Traveller would want.

Large, superbly equipped rooms, a Spar, great outdoor pool, three themed restaurants (Indian, Mexican and Italian) fully equipped gym for those inclined, the choice of using an exclusive Executive Lounge which includes ‘cooked to order’ breakfasts, early evening canapes and drinks, live bar music and best of all, long standing staff who care.

The resident manager is a genial Scot, well respected by all and a guy who will go the extra mile to ensure his guests are provided for in the best manner possible.
