Forget the overcrowded costas, leave behind the madding crowds, eat good Spanish fare and meet real Spanish people get yourselves to Cortijo Nava.

Run by 2 delightful English ex-pats this lovely hideaway nestling in the hills, off the beaten track near Villanueva del Trabuco but only 45 minutes from Malaga airport is a must if you like the real Spain.

Made up of 2 properties, one sleeping 8 and the other 4, both have eveything you need for a self catering holiday. Add to that a delightful garden with a small swimming pool and you really cannot go wrong.

There is plenty to do within easy reach, Granada an hour by car, Antequera 30 minutes, El Torcal a wonderful example of how good nature is at producing masterpieces out of bare rock, El Chorro with its man made lakes and the local village just a few minutes away.

Villanueva has everything you need, minimarkets, a daily fruit and vegetable market, a pleasant square where you can wile away the time sipping whatever drink you want and a couple of restaurants providing excellent Spanish fare at very reasonable prices.

Your hosts, Vikki and Dave, cannot do enough from the moment you arrive till being there to wave you goodbye. Sit in their lovely garden in the late afternoon after a busy day of sightseeing and let your eye wander over the countryside around the cortijo. As far as the eye can see there is greenery in the shape of olive trees, stretching to the horizon and the far off hilltops. Open another bottle of Rioja and work out what you are going to eat that evening and just sag back.
