People living with dementia can often feel that holidays, travel and outdoor activity are no longer options for them. But evidence shows that connection to nature, and the outdoors, has significant well-being benefits for both the person living with dementia and their caregivers. Dementia Adventure believes days out and holidays shouldn’t stop just because of a dementia diagnosis, which is why they offer small-group and tailored holidays for people living with dementia, enabling them to get away with their friends and family.
Dementia Adventure have organised supported dementia holidays for over 12 years. They understand the complex and individual needs of people living with dementia. Their experienced team and thoughtfully planned itineraries allow you to relax and enjoy the holiday you deserve. Whether you want to relax by the coast or walk in the mountains, they have something for everyone. They focus on what you can achieve rather than what you can’t.
The holiday planning is all done for you, or with you, from accommodation, to travel, days out and meals. An experienced member of the Dementia Adventure team joins you on the holiday to take care of all the day to day practical details, along with at least one supporter for every person living with dementia. You’ll be supported 24 hours a day, with someone available to do all the cooking and driving, assisting at mealtimes, and accompanying you on days out. They provide an extra pair of hands, eyes and ears, so you can relax and benefit from the break. Dementia Adventure promises to be sensitive to your individual needs, encouraging independence and meaningful activity where possible, and providing as little or as much support as you require.
Supported Days Out
If a holiday feels like a step too far for you, or if you have lost confidence in taking a person with dementia out and about, especially after months of shielding and lockdown, you may prefer a supported day out.
Dementia Adventure can help you to overcome feelings of isolation or anxiety about leaving your home, and help you regain your confidence to get outside, so that you can go on to enjoy the benefits of getting outdoors for yourself regularly.
If you live in Essex and have dementia or know someone who does, Dementia Adventure will organise a supported day out for you to enjoy together in the Essex countryside or by the coast. Choose from a variety of locations, including wide open parks, beautiful gardens, nature rich forests, and the coast.
Their expert team will take care of you, and all the details, to ensure you have the peace of mind to relax, grow in confidence and get the most from being in the great outdoors.
