Congratulations and thank you for your comprehensive review of the hotel. Do you have any pictures you could share with us. As the photographer did such a good job we’d love to see you from your special day.

It started with a kiss…not quite but as the song by Hot Chocolate goes on to say “You made me promise to marry you”.
But what has this got to do with a holiday in Mauritius? Let me explain.
We decided to go to Mauritius for a holiday in May. For those who cannot quite place Mauritius on the map, the island is east of Mozambique which is off the coast of Africa. Direct flight times is about 11 hours. So we booked the flights (BA from Gatwick though Air Mauritius fly direct from Heathrow), then searched for a hotel.
May is relatively a quiet period as it’s the beginning of their winter. But the weather is still warm (not too hot) though you can get some rain. We wanted a quiet area and not one of the big resorts that exist on the east coast of the island. Oh, and I nearly forgot we wanted to play golf. So our search narrowed down to the Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness Resort, which is situated in Bel Ombre on the south coast.
We booked the hotel well in advance but about 2 months before we were due to go, we decided to get married whilst there. So it did not start with a kiss but with a need for a great holiday. So we asked the hotel if this was possible and they agreed to help us to get it arranged. The hotel does offer various wedding packages including one that suited us in that there would be only the two of us travelling and of course at the wedding! The main problem is that the proposed wedding had to be approved by the island officials and usually takes up two months to obtain. Ours was not straight forward but the hotel Guest Relations put a lot of time into getting the paperwork approved just in time.
From the moment we arrived at the hotel we were looked after fantastically by the staff. Now Le Telfair is a very good hotel with a great golf course. It’s spacious, on the beach front, with good restaurants and facilities, too numerous to mention. In itself, it’s a good place to stay whilst in Mauritius. But what makes the hotel heads above many we have stayed in were the staff. They all appeared to enjoy their work at the hotel, and they looked after the guests with much attention and care. Each hotel room has a designated a “host” who was there to organise everything for you, including restaurant bookings, use of facilities and everything the hotel had to offer including trips out.
As for the wedding the “wedding team” did everything for us to make our day special. Unlike many weddings, the preparations were fun too. For example, a few days before the wedding we had to go into Port Louis, the main city to complete the formalities with the authorities. The Team made this enjoyable by taking us around the city sights in between appointments as well as telling us about the island and the islanders. Special mention should go to the hotel driver, Widley. We enjoyed his company so much we arranged for him to take us out on a day tour of the southern part of the island later in the week. This was by far better than organising a tour by coach or by self-drive car hire as it was flexible in where we went and how long we stopped at various sights and Widley was very informative and knowledgeable.
As for the wedding, this went like a dream. We had a choice of venues around the hotel but we decided it would take place on the beach. The staff appeared to enjoy the event as much as we did! We had a superb photographer who made us look great in and around the hotel. There were lots of surprises too. For example a decorated golf cart, red petals sprinkled on our bed and in the bath. The hotel also owns a chateau which has great views of the sea, golf course and the local area and a beautiful garden. Here we had our dinner after the wedding and we stayed, as the only guests, overnight in a magnificent suite. In the morning we had a lovely breakfast on the balcony of the chateau all to ourselves, served by our own waiter.
So we would thoroughly recommend this hotel and Mauritius. Also, if you want a wedding of any size from just a couple to a large gathering we would totally recommend the Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness Resort as we are sure they will create a memorable day for you that you will remember a long while.
