Forestry Commision log cabins

Its always puzzled me why Noah bothered taking Mosquitoes into the ark in the first place…

Only downside can be those nasty little biting things found among the trees in the summer months…

…that reminds me of something…I was enjoying the height of a Polish summer one year ( while their winters are bitterly cold, their summers are scorching and far longer than ours) anyway, mosquitoes are in prevalence and one bit me…only to curl up and die in convulsions my arm before my very eyes ( severe nicotine poisoning I suspect).

That is a true story.

Wakefield, West Yorks.

We stopped in one of the cabins about 12 years ago before they went ‘up market’. It’s a great base for exploring the area. You do need a car. For Grey Wolf, Whitby and Scarborough are only a short drive away. I don’t know about cockles and muscles but Fortune’s kippers in Whitby are to die for. Only downside can be those nasty little biting things found among the trees in the summer months…

I’ve always felt a tad trepidatious about going on such a holiday…all that isolation leading to the possibility of cabin craziness…reminiscent of films like "The Shining" or "Communion"…then you throw shotguns into the equation…

No. Mussels and cockles on Folkestone bay for me…

Sound like a great location Jo – just took this piece from their website in case anyone else may be interested in it.

Located 35 miles from the historic English town of York, Keldy Cabins sits on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Its idyllic setting in the heart of the forest makes Keldy Cabins an ideal choice for relaxing family holidays or short breaks in Yorkshire. Explore on foot, hire a bike or relax in your Cabin.

With its position on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, our cabins at Keldy offer loads of fun activities for you to enjoy on your break. Discover the beauty of this area on horseback, on a two wheel Segway adventure, or for a real thrill take to four wheels! 4×4 off-roading and quadbiking are a great adrenalin fix.

Country pursuits are proving popular all across the country… so why not don your tweed jackets and try your hand shooting clays or targets.

For those with a head for heights, take to the skies on a short flight where you’ll get the chance to take over the controls.

Take part in our range of exciting activities and make the most of your Yorkshire Holiday!

This year we’re not staying at the chalets, alas, but we will be visiting, as we’re staying at Whitby for a few days….and going to Flamingo Land again. My OH just loves rollercoasters!

We’ve stayed twice in the Forestry village at Keldy, Pickering, N. Yorks…..the first time the chalets were very beautiful, but didn’t have any luxury items; now they have en-suite bathrooms, dishwashers, and some have a hot tub on the veranda. There’s a small shop in the complex, and plenty of information about using the forest. You’re high on the N.Y. Moors National Park, and within easy reach of the coast, or my favourite- Flamingo Land theme park and zoo (ideal for a day out with children).
I’ve only seen the main site in Scotland from the road, but it was in a stunning location.
