Just to add to the above @Ancien_Flower
Silver Travel Advisor have over a dozen river cruise partners who offer different experiences and without knowing your likes, dislikes and preferences it would difficult to recommend any one particular company. Take a look at the river cruise page on this link https://www.silvertraveladvisor.com/find-a-holiday/cruise/river and then have a look at the many reviews by Silver Travel members like yourself. If you want further advice go to the Silver Travel home page and open the Ask An Advisor box and your question will be answered by one of our specialist advisors who has experience of many cruise lines.

Thanks for the link Fossil. I had forgotten how many river cruise reviews I had written on here.

Hello all, I am new to the Forum and wanted to attempt to find Solo Travellers of my age who were into forming a small group for Travel.

I am a Pensioner and not Travelled the World as yet, in fact I have only been on a couple of ‘Paid Holidays’ in my life, at the Seaside.

I would love to go to Egypt and take a Long Cruise along the Nile, maybe visit Jordan, ( Petra,) but can never find any Holidays offering the sort of Holiday I’d like or in fact need as I can’t walk far, so it couldn’t involve any walking, which is one of the reasons I’d like a Cruise.

Being a Solo traveller, I would like to be in a small ‘Group’ and hopefully make a few new friends. I’m not scared of being on my own and have travelled most of Britain alone. I have owned several ‘Camper Vans’ and spent a long time alone ‘on the road’. But due to my age, (I am a ‘Pensioner’,) I now have several disabilities which limit my Mobility, so would prefer to be with other people.

Do leave a comment or reply to the thread if you are a single traveller like me who wants to be in a small group of people for Travel purposes, or just to say hello or chat.

Hope to hear from you….

Good morning Ancient Flower and welcome from me.

As an Avid river cruiser I’m sure I can pass on some information and points of interest/help to you.

Firstly though please allow me to recommend one particular company that I have first hand experience with, Viking River Cruises.

I too am a pensioner but fortunately that certainly hasn’t slowed me down: my wife tells everyone who will listen that I’m hyper active.

But my point here is that I appreciate Viking so much because they divide their inclusive excursions into groups that cater for the likes of me, who want to cover every blade of grass possible, and for those, like you, who want a more leisurely time to visit just the more pertinent sites.

It’s a long time since I cruised along the Nile, indeed, when I sailed it the internet isn’t what it is today and digital photography wasn’t available. However, to give you an idea of a Viking River cruise here is a link to a review I wrote of one covering the Rhone in Southern France…

Now I would respectfully suggest that, if you haven’t already done so, contact Viking and sign up for their brochure and mailing lists.

Alternatively you could try Saga. They also have an excellent reputation for looking after their ‘pensioner’ clientele.

I’m a solo traveller, but do it all myself, and can walk as far as I need to (don’t do mountains any more).

In your position, I think the first step is probably the hardest. You are used to being on your own, so that’s not the issue – but the challenges are different in another country and you would like to know there are people there to support you.

I’m the wrong person to advise on cruises – someone else might come up with that. But I would urge you to make sure the company you travel with are very clear about any difficulties you might have with walking/stairs etc – our disability legislation makes it imperative that they do all they can to accommodate you and to be clear if they can’t .

Hi @Ancien_Flower and welcome to the forum. We have a number of solo travellers so you are not alone here.
