Help needed!!

Hi CG, i’ve IE9 and when I updated mine I got the spellcheck back by this method…

Top right of this window is a little spanner [next to the ‘sign in’ button]- click this and when the new window appears you need to left click the ‘Tools’ button (4th one down on the left] and in the window that opens I think its the 4th down again for the spellcheck, make sure this box is ticked, if not tick it and the spellchecker should then work.

It worked for me I hope it will for you too………….David

I assume it was "Pawn"!

No it should have been Porn…. which brings me back to the dangers of relying on spell checkers!

A friend of daughters at university studying geography entered ‘Petrology’ in the search on the university computer which threw up ’Pedro’s Pawn Palace’…. He was never allowed to live that one down.

Its not just the spell checker predictions that are amusing now. Google tries to anticipate your query & gives you suggestions. At the weekend I typed "Why does", quick as a flash it suggested why does my @ smell. I only hope that isn’t thrown up because that’s the most often asked question beginning why does.

Quite so.

On the old computer the spell checker used to throw up different ideas for the correct word (often with some quite amusing alternatives). The present one just undelines words which it thinks are spelt wrong…

They can be dangerous as they don’t consider context so won’t pick up if you are using the wrong ‘there’ or ‘their’….

Indeed and thusly we now have a new dilemma for the net age, namely the very desensitisation of language or semantic acquisition… push button expectancy of each and every word under the Sun. What the calculator did for mental arithmetic, the automated spellcheck now does for spelling.
