You are not alone

Single travellersWe are often asked about singles holidays for over 50s, and we’ve brought together a range of suggestions and ideas to help you make the best decision for your next holiday.

We're delighted to report that not only are specialists such as Solos Holidays providing a great choice, but also, many of the larger tour operators have listened to our requests and are reducing or removing the dreaded single supplement.

And we’re pleased to note that many of the cruise lines are building their new ships, or re-modelling older vessels, to include more single cabins.

You can see all of our singles holidays partners here.

Our top recommendation is:

Solos Holidays is an award-winning specialist tour operator with over 30 years’ experience.  If you’re a little nervous about heading off on a two week holiday for your first ‘on your own’ holiday, try a UK dinner dance or an overnight trip to a Christmas market to test the water. And then you’ll realise just what fun travelling with a group can be, especially when a tour director is always on hand to support and advise. Before long, you could be off on a sun and sand holiday, or an activities break, with many different sports to be enjoyed. solos Holidays also have a range of exclusive Club Solos Hotels, just for singles of course!

For single travellers, Silver Travel Advisor also recommends:

Just You – An award-winning collection of worldwide escorted holidays designed exclusively for single travellers.

I booked a coach trip, Just a day trip to somewhere I had not been to before. I booked it a week before I was going. But the day before the trip I was informed that they had over booked and there was no longer any room. I later found out that it was because they had a couple who wanted to go and because I was a solo traveller it would mean having an empty seat on the coach. I do get my money back but missed out on the trip.

I am surprised that no mention is made of Just You - a travel company for solo travellers of all ages. I have had quite a few very good holidays with them, I'd recommend them.

It's not only Daish Holidays who add a single supplement for a single room - I recently paid an extra £32 for a room with Cairngorm Travel for a 5 day/4 night holiday. My room was like a broom cupboard overlooking the car-park at the back of the hotel. Shearings advertise holidays which suddenly become unavailable when you are a single traveller!

I would like to warn people about DAISH HOLIDAYS policy of charging extra for a single room supplement on their UK coach holidays. I have no problem being charged extra when a double or twin is sold for single occupancy but they sell single rooms which could not be sold as twins and charge a £10 supplement. When asked why they claim it is to cover extra costs involved!
