My mother went to the Algarve a few years ago (when she was 82!) She loved it. My husband and myself have been wanting to go there since, but for various reasons it hasn't happened yet. Fingers crossed

What enticing holidays you have for prize winners to Portugal. My partner John has never been, so it would be a great experience. He loves writing. We never know what lies round the corner for us silvertravellors, so we must try & take any opportunity that comes our way. It is exciting to have something to look forward to in these dull damp days in a winter on Dartmoor. Portugal has so much to offer.

I can highly recommend the Algarve having stayed regularly and in fact I met my husband there in October 1987 and we go back every year to celebrate!

The weather is wonderful - 30* at the moment, the beaches are beautiful and clean.

Dining can be very cheap if you choose the 'Tourist Menu' which includes starter, main course, desert and drink - normally costs around 10 euros.

There are lots of wonderful villages to visit e.g. Ante. We took a boat trip out to see the caves and Dolphins which cost 30 euros each.

There is lots of live entertainment around for the evenings and it is still warm enough to sit outside.

Went to the Algarve many years ago, leaving home on Boxing Day. We spent days on the beach in swimsuits and bikinis while the locals looked on in amazement, well wrapped up in heavy coats, scarves, hats, boots and gloves. No wonder we have a reputation for being eccentric!

I am going to Lisbon again next month during a cruise and this time I want to see more of the fantastic city and buildings. The open top hop on hop off buses are great and they have a eco friendly bus company which is green instead of red.
Also I found the most delicious tart - a bit like a custard one but much much nicer, so I shall be having some of them during my day there.

I have been to Lisbon twice and found getting around very easy and the people very friendly. I was on a cruise ship last New Year and the ship stayed in port on New Years Eve until 1 am so that we could see the fireworks from the ship. It was very good and we could hear the music playing on shore.

I have only been to the Algarve once about 15 years ago. I stayed in Alberfiera and it was very nice. They were still in the process of completing the town centre paved area with shops around. I think it probably looks very good now.
The beach was lovely and the people very friendly.

Had the opportunity to visit Portugal several times when my son was working there for a couple of years, always found everyone very friendly, the countryside & climate are both lovely and we had a wonderful time.

The prize of a holiday to Portugal sounds fabulous, the beaches look fascinating. I would also like to explore the area.
