Biblio TravelThis month the Silver Travel Book Club – proudly sponsored by Biblio Travel – is reading Songbirds by Christy Lefteri.

Songbirds is a beautifully written story of love and loss set in Cyprus. Nisha has crossed oceans to give her child a future. By day, she cares for Petra's daughter; at night, she mothers her own little girl by the light of a phone. Nisha's lover, Yiannis, is a poacher, hunting the tiny songbirds on their way to Africa each winter. His dreams of a new life, and of marrying Nisha, are shattered when she vanishes. No one cares about the disappearance of a domestic worker, except Petra and Yiannis. As they set out to search for her, they realise how little they know about Nisha. What they uncover will change them all.

After a year of house selling, hunting, buying I just need to relax. I love exploring, wandering back streets. I love country walks. I love historic buildings but at this time in my life finding a secluded beach, chilling in the sun, relaxing with a good book would be perfect and I would always remember it as a wonderful respite after a hard year.

Cyprus - so many beautiful memories, the people, the food, the mountains, the beaches. The smell of the Cypruss Trees and the Orange and Olive Groves. Visiting the ancient historic sites in that open topped car we hired while still being able to drive on the right. We visited first the south of the island but loved it so much we had to return to visit the north side, loved both would return in a flash.

Sadly, I have never visited Cyprus and , after reading the blog on this wonderful site, I'm not sure why !!!!!! I would love to visit Cyprus, as it has everything on my "dream' list, when choosing a holiday destination - sunny weather , idyllic beaches and culture . . .however , I have no idea about traditional Cypriot food, so this is something that I would truly look forward to discovering on my trip . ( is it similar to Turkish ?)

I've never been to Cyprus but as it's so large and diverse it's very difficult to decide exactly where I'd like to visit, though I'm tempted by the Troodos Mountains, but not for winter sports. I think I'd like to go in March or April to somewhere where I'd see lots of wildflowers and/or trees in blossom. Archaeological sites and old churches in the villages also sound interesting and obviously eating Cypriot food and drinking the local wine would make it a holiday to remember.

Many thanks for your comments. Cyprus is the perfect place for a dose of winter sun. I have only been once and can you believe on a day trip ! Those were the days when travel was somewhat easier. I went in January for a delicious lunch, the temperature was balmy and the skys electric blue.

I have never visited Cyprus but would love to one day. My Dad (who is long gone now!) was there in the war and always talked about how beautiful Famagusta was. I know this is now in the Turkish part but if I ever got the chance to visit, it would be comforting to know I would be walking in my Dad's footsteps.

I loved my visit to Cyprus, especially walking to explore, the wild flowers, beaches and the peaceful places. Great historical sites to visit too.

Cyprus is a beautiful island and we have visited twice. It is an island. Of contrasts with large busting resorts and smaller towns to stay in. We prefer the quieter places and code Latchi for both of our stays. We loved the fish restaurants there and as we had hired a car, we were able to explore beautiful beaches and areas easily. We love the Akamas Peninsula and even in October it is beautiful. We would love to go back as apparently the Akamas Peninsula is even more spectacular in Spring when it is awash with Spring flowers. Hopefully we will return one day soon!
