Balkans & Transylvania tour with Cosmos Holidays – Part 1

The Cosmos difference

Cosmos means the world, the universe and today it brings the world to you. People from all over the world, go all over the world, with this organised, efficient company that only wants the very best for their customers.

Escorted tours, small group tours – Cosmos has it all covered. They take care of all the details, with the right combinations of free time and planned visits, excellent organisation, educated efficient tour directors and special coaches for all your comfort whilst travelling.

Glynis with Maja the Cosmos guide The ‘family’ of Cosmos encompasses the sister company of Globus Platinum Tours which give the traveller an authentic experience, central hotels VIP access to major attractions, a more personalised experience. Avalon Waterways, another sister company, gives the traveller chance to relax, sip a cocktail and watch the beautiful scenery unfold before them.

Cosmos go to 6 continents, 77 countries with 480 holidays, it is a global company with a promise to offer a price match if you find a comparable holiday.

Our recent experience on a Balkans and Transylvania coach tour took us to four countries; Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Serbia. The attraction for this holiday was the appeal of going to Transylvania to have the ‘Dracula experience’ and see the mediaeval castles and beautiful countryside. It certainly did not disappoint. Also visit the fascinating cities of Budapest, Novi Sad, Belgrade, Sofia, Plovdiv, Bucharest, and Brasov.

We met our tour director for a briefing on the first evening and also met up with our fellow travellers. Information and guidance was given out to the group plus the currency details we would be using for each country. Cosmos send out lots of information before your planned trip and this does include the full itinerary and questions that people may have asked previously.

Itinerary: Treasure of the Balkans & Transylvania We were joined by people from Australia, America, Canada and the UK – all over the world – strangers now friends! A good mix with young and old plus solo travellers – if you have a disability contact Cosmos. You will need a travelling companion as the employees are unable to assist you. Not all sightseeing stops or visits will be suitable for a disabled traveller and on some trips a lot of walking and steps are necessary. For information contact www.cosmos.co.uk

There is a lot of coach travel on this particular trip but to get to see all these interesting and amazing places then this is the easiest way to see the countries from your ‘armchair seat’ in the excellent coaches that Cosmos use. Our coach was luxurious with controllable air conditioning and beautiful comfortable reclining seats. Wi-fi is included on many of the European coaches so you can send your loved one’s pictures of the places you will be visiting. The control above our heads had the air conditioning and a button for the lights and the speaker, so if music was being played you could turn it down for easy listening. Food is not allowed on these luxury coaches.

Going with Cosmos is stress free. Your cases are taken to your room each evening and you only have to pack and leave them outside the door for the porter to take them to the coach for the next day’s adventure! Lots of comfort stops are arranged and if an emergency is required then an on-board toilet is on most of the big coaches. Food and lunch stops are catered for but not included. Some evening meals are provided, and some optional excursions or dinners are extra.

Budapest Taking comfortable shoes is a must, casual clothes are ‘in’ and on the odd occasion that you do get dressed to go out to dinner – smart casual is the all you need. Travelling from town to town with perhaps one or two nights in each hotel, packing and re packing can become very tedious, so mix and match and be comfortable. Your cases are transported in the coach luggage hold, so on the coach take water, hat, sun glasses etc., but only what you will need whilst travelling.

Whilst on the tours you are given a ‘quiet box’ which is a small apparatus with an ear piece – like a small mobile phone – so that you can hear the guide even if you cannot see them. So, if you are in a church or a busy street you can still listen to all the fascinating information from knowledgeable guides.

We were very impressed with Cosmos, as were our fellow travellers, but remember you cannot please all of the people all of the time – but if you relax and enjoy the pleasure of driving through some amazing countryside and visiting wonderful cities you will get a terrific experience. On coach trips there will be early starts and no ‘wild nights’ due to early starts but you can sleep on the coach – most people do! But if you want to go all over the world with people from all over the world with a professional, caring company that feature affordable priced holidays then Cosmos is for you.
