Tenerife – largest of the Canary Islands

Whether you’re considering a winter break or next year’s holiday in the sun – Tenerife has it all!

With Tenerife boasting glorious sunshine, beautiful beaches, magnificent views, superb hotels, UNESCO World Heritage sights, and an excellent choice of restaurants and bars it is no wonder that it attracts hundreds of holidaymakers every year; all year round!

Tenerife is a perfect holiday destination with the family; perhaps a break with the grandchildren or just a getaway for a couple. There is an ideal combination of things to do on the island, with something for everyone! Whether you are looking for a more relaxed holiday in the sunshine, or a family friendly resort packed full of natural beauty and exciting activities and attractions, then Tenerife is certainly the right place to head to!

Mount Teide National Park Some of the things to see and do
When visiting Tenerife, a visit to Mount Teide, should be at the top of your list. The Teide National Park surrounds the legendary volcano and is perfectly located within the centre of the island. As the park is the only subtropical alpine area in Europe, it is home to a number of species which are unique to the park; nature in all its splendour! ! Whilst visiting the National Park, make the most of the lookout points provided; allowing you to capture some of the spectacular views of the island on camera. On your trip, you will also be able to witness the fascinating phenomenon of the ‘sea of clouds’. When the gentle trade winds push the clouds up against the mountains they give rise to a sea of real beauty. On occasions this sea of clouds causes a fine and mysterious horizontal rain.

A visit to the capital of Tenerife; Santa Cruz, is a good day out. This dynamic city has great shopping, restaurants, hotels and loads more! To really explore the fascinating culture within Tenerife, you should also definitely consider a trip to the city La Laguna. Only a short distance from Santa Cruz, La Laguna offers a mix of unique historical monuments as well as boutique shops and a good selection of restaurants; I highly recommend you explore the Tapas within La Laguna!

Fun at Siam Park Fun at Siam Park
If you fancy doing something a little bit more exhilarating during your trip, then a visit to Siam Park is for you. Siam park is a Thai-themed water park which caters for the whole family. If you want to bring out the thrill-seeker in you, then Siam Park is the place to do so with plenty of water slides and rides that will get your heart racing; particularly the infamous ‘Tower of Power’!

However, if, like me, you like your visit to a water park to be a little more relaxing, then Siam Park offers its own white sandy beach and lazy river circulating the park; perfect for an afternoon ‘siesta’! If you’re travelling with children or grandchildren, the Lost City; within Siam Park, is a fantastic water play area which will keep them entertained for hours!

Whale watching
Whale watching is another popular attraction as the south coast of the island is home to around 400 resident short-finned pilot whales and many bottlenose dolphins. The crystal clear waters mean that a whale watching boat trip is ideal from this island and is fun for all.

Tenerife Where to stay
I decided to stay in the H10 Conquistador located in Playa de Las Americas; and what a good choice this was! Located perfectly within Playa de Las Americas, this 4* hotel was exactly what I had hoped for during my stay in Tenerife. With a beautiful pool, spa, gym, café, pool bar, a la carte restaurant and marbled flooring throughout, this hotel was an excellent choice! It was clean, comfortable and modern with the choice of magnificent sea views provided from the comfort of your own balcony! The hotel offered a wide range of facilities for you to enjoy during your stay and the excellent service provided by the hotel staff gave it the finishing touch!

With Tenerife only being a four hour flight from the UK, you could be in the glorious Tenerife sunshine in no time! I really can’t recommend this Island enough as a perfect holiday destination; an Island I will certainly be revisiting!
