You won’t be short of a good view

Wherever you stay in The Lake District, whether it’s in the heart at Lake Windermere, further north in Keswick or closer to Kendal you can be sure that you won’t be short of a good view. Taking in the breath taking and dramatic scenery on a winter walk has got to be high on the list of things to do when you visit the Lakes at Christmas. And if you are worried about the cold just think about the meal you can treat yourself with at the end of the day, with so many places to get a proper pub meal with some tasty Cumbrian food to warm you up.

The view over Derwentwater from Friars Crag Wrapping up warm and taking a walk with the family, friends or your loved one is the perfect winter activity, especially with such stunning views available. For a gentle walk, we’d recommend the Friar’s Crag and Castlehead Wood walk, covering a distance of 24 miles it offers fantastic views of Derwentwater, and starts and finishes in the town of Keswick.

If you are looking for something a little more challenging however, start at the car park at Ash Landing and follow this route to Claife Heights provided by the National Trust for a 7.5 mile walk that covers Windermere and is right in the heart of the Lakes and gives you plenty of stunning views to fill your boots, letting you discover the hidden gems along the west shore Windermere.

Magical winter landscape

The weather won’t always play ball, we know that. But even when the rain is pouring down there is still plenty to do! The Lake District offers a number of local pubs where you can stop by for a drink and a bite to eat to sample the local food.
