Top tips for visiting Zurich

Purchase a 24 or 72 hour Zurich Card.This will give you unlimited travel in the city and surrounding area, some boats trips and plenty of discounts.

Using your Zurich Card Take the Uetliberg train to the top, it takes around 20 minutes and there is an excellent view of the city, lake and surrounding countryside. Walk up to the restaurant, viewing tower and café further up.

Zurich Every Wednesday there is a colourful market inside the main railway station. There are plenty of stalls and food outlets.

Take a 31 bus or number 4 tram from the station for an overall look at the city.

A good place to eat is the restaurant in the Manora Department store in Bahnhofstrasse.

Take a trip up the highest building in Switzerland the prime tower which is in Zurich West. You will find a trendy café at the top with great views.

If you are looking for a snack try the bratwurst stall down by the lake. A local speciality is a cervelat sausage which is made from beef and pork.

The river and lake are often at their best in the early morning or at sunset. You could also try a short boat trip using your Zurich Card.

Splash out on a special meal and take yourself along to the Zeughauskeller. Known for its local dishes it is usually full of people and great fun.

You should not miss the spectacular Chagall window in the Fraumunster church close to the river.

Zurich Make sure you bring a good pair of walking shoes as this is the best way to see the old town. Zurich is very compact so you shouldn’t get lost.

To keep the prices low think about buying your souvenirs at the Coop store close to the main station.

The area outside the university is a good place to lie back and get a tan or just enjoy the view. The easiest way to get there is to take the 3 minute ride on the SPG Polybahn from Niederdorfstrasse close to the river.  

Before leaving you must try a cup of chocolate at one of the many famous cafes and restaurants.
