We love Turkey! And we loved the Deniz Feneri Lighthouse. Located on a peninsula, about 2 kilometres from Kas, it is a dream hotel for us. It is run by Gillian and Ozan, who, with their staff, provide a wonderful, discreet service, nothing is too much trouble. A good range of different rooms (38) in seperate buildings across the hillside, our teenagers had a mini-suite, a bathroom each, a sitting room (sofa bed for a 3rd adult) and their own terrace with sun loungers. I was thrilled to find no television, there is nothing worse than MTV when on holiday. So we all read, and borrowed books from the 'swop' shelves in the restaurant and helpfully, down at the beach. You can also have a super suite on two floors, with a plunge pool. Everyone we spoke to was delighted with their accomodation. Ours was Deluxe, a large room, a big, really comfortable bed and masses of wardrobe space, neatly hidden away, all in Scandanavian style light wood. An excellent power shower in the bathroom and a bath too. Brilliantly there is a giant flagon of water in the room, so no worries about remembering to buy numerous bottles every day.

We enjoyed a wonderful complimentary hamam on site and the spa treatments were well priced and good. What is so lovely here is that there is plenty of space to find some privacy down by the sea, steps into the water from the cliff (very easy), a pontoon to swim out to and a seaside restaurant, so you don't need to move far. We even met the famous local turtle, George. The sea is bracing, and can be quite choppy in the afternoon, all fine for us. The pool is up near the restaurant, there's not alot of space round it, but it wasn't a problem. The restaurant is great, super breakfasts with a chef on hand to cook eggs of your choice and a varied a la carte evening menu. Several evenings a week are themed, down by the sea or in the main restaurant, all very well done. As ever, I ate much too much!

Kas is an interesting little town, full of history with Lycian tombs and remains very much part of the scenery. It is popular with Turkish families too, and the promenade is busy in the evenings, with people strolling about enjoying the bars and restaurants, which are excellent and come in all price ranges. Not much throbbing music which pleased me. All in all, it has a friendly, very relaxed atmosphere with an air of enjoyment, rather than wild hedonism. Our holiday was arranged by our favourite Exclusive Escapes, who catered for our needs brilliantly both when booking, and locally through the wonderful rep, Steve. If you are in need of a break, sun and sea (with a superb gulet trip included), go to the Deniz Feneri Lighthouse.
