These popular days are for Silver Travel Advisor members who are new to cruising or new to Holland America Line to get a taste of cruising. Have you ever wanted to write travel articles or a travel blog for others to read, or simply for your own pleasure?  Would you like to learn more about creative travel writing, and what it is that makes a travel article memorable? Why not attend one of our popular Travel Writing Workshops?

Noble Caledonia are our hosts and we are very lucky to have secured, once again, the services of experienced travel writers Deborah Stone and Nick Dalton to run the workshop.

Deborah Stone is a widely-published cruise writer and has edited the Daily Telegraph's Cruise Style supplements as well as written for them. She also writes regularly for the Daily Express cruise pages and has worked on the Telegraph and Express Travel Desks. She also writes about the British Isles, contributing to The Telegraph, The Times, Daily Mail and Daily and Sunday Express, and is a co-author of Frommer's Wales With Your Family and joint lead writer with Nick of Frommer's England & Wales 2012.

Nick Dalton has written extensively on travel for The Times, the Daily Telegraph, Daily Express and many magazines. He has written and edited guidebooks for Frommer's, edited ski magazines and written publications for destinations in the US. He writes regularly on skiing and cruising and has recently been nominated for the best Travel Guidebook at the British Travel Awards.

The evening will feature a presentation by Louise Schofield. Formerly a curator at the British Museum, Louise Schofield runs international archaeological and conversation projects. She writes, lectures and makes television programmes for the BBC and has spent much time living and working in Ethiopia. Louise has accompanied many tours to the region.

The evening will feature a presentation by Marlies Weston who has a first class degree in Sinology from Leiden University and studied Western Art History at Christie's and Asian Art History & Archaeology at SOAS, London. Marlies has lived and worked in China and South East Asia and is presently Convenor and Senior Tutor of the Chinese module of the Diploma in Asian Art at SOAS. She has a passion for Chinese art, especially Chinese brush painting.

Cox & Kings Travel is delighted to present an exclusive India-themed evening at the headquarters of the Royal Geographical Society (RGS) in London on 10th October at 7pm. The highlight of the evening will be a talk by one of the world’s great India experts, Sir Mark Tully, on the subject of The Mind of India. During the talk, Sir Mark will draw upon a lifetime’s immersion in the complexities of India, from its deep-rooted traditions to its manic modernity, to give a very personal view of the country, its people and its place in the world today. Sir Mark will also be happy to take questions from the audience and sign copies of his books afterwards.

As the BBC’s bureau chief in New Delhi for 22 years, Sir Mark Tully became one of the most respected and recognisable voices of India to his millions of listeners in the Subcontinent, Britain and beyond. His passion for India is undimmed and he remains one of the foremost authorities on Indian culture, history and religion. In addition to his broadcasting career, Sir Mark has written a number of the most perceptive books about the country, including: No Full Stops in India, The Heart of India, India's Unending Journey, and India: The Road Ahead.

In addition to the talk, there will be a specially curated exhibit of maps, photographs and archival material from the Society’s India-related collections spanning more than 500 years and prepared especially for Cox & Kings.

During the evening, there will also be the opportunity to meet Cox & Kings’ India experts; learn about the forthcoming Maha Kumbh Mela festival in Allahabad (anticipated to be the largest ever human gathering); and discover the inspiring work of the Magic Bus children’s charity in India, founded by Matthew Spacie MBE, formerly of Cox & Kings.

Hurtigruten are proud to invite you to a unique evening of readings, film and collections charting some of history’s most important nautical expeditions, providing us with a rare insight into the worlds of these early explorers.

6.00pm:
Arrive through the Exhibition Road entrance of the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) and join us for a drinks reception in the Map Room.

6.30pm:
Take your seat in the Ondaatje Theatre for the start of our programme, including a welcome from Hurtigruten’s Managing Director Kathryn Beadle.

7.45pm:
Return to the Society’s Foyle Reading Room for a private viewing of rare and unique items from the Society’s rich collection. You will also have a chance to view an exhibition by Herbert Ponting, the expedition photographer for Robert Falcon Scott’s Terra Nova Expedition to the Ross Sea
and South Pole.

9.00pm:
Evening closes.

All companies entered for an Award were put before a core selection of industry professionals, drawn from the BTA Academy, a panel of respected individuals in business from both in and outside the travel industry, who whittled the nominations down to the list of final nominees in each of the seventy-five categories. The next stage sees the shortlisted companies put before the public vote with voting promoted through BTA media partners which include The Times, Sunday Times, The Sun, Sunday Sun and the Global Radio stations, including LBC and Classic FM.  Shortlisted companies are also encouraged to lobby their happy customers for votes!
 
The winners will be the companies with the most votes - in 2011 over 700,000 votes were cast with the voting process and results scrutinized and audited by independent auditors Deloitte LLP. The winners of the 2012 British Travel Awards will be announced at a glittering ceremony on 1 November at the Battersea Evolution in Battersea Park, London.
