Looking ahead to our Silver Safari in Kenya with Somak Holidays

Aberdare National Park

Now the holiday season is behind us and dreary January sets in, I am beginning to think ahead to our fabulous adventure to Kenya.

Bookings are starting to roll in so I am hoping we have a good number of ‘Silver Travellers’ to join me on this adventure.

If you are thinking about booking, but have any questions or concerns the team at Somak Holidays will be only too pleased to help.

Please call Somak Holidays, the Safari Specialist on 020 8423 3000 and quote Silver Travel Advisor Safari.

And of course I am always available to help if I can and you can email me sally@sallydowling.co.uk.

Aberdare Country Club One of the concerns we Silver Travellers may have is the organisation of ‘comfort breaks’ during the transfers. Roads in Kenya can be bumpy and journeys sometimes take longer than expected, this is Africa after all! But Somak are on the ball and will be very sensitive to the needs of guests who may need stops along the way. Don’t worry – they will have thought of everything.

With that delicate subject out of the way my thoughts turn to health issues. You will need to visit your Doctor, or health practioner, a few months before we travel to check up on any booster vaccinations you may need, and to get malaria medication advice and prescriptions. This safari has the Flying Doctor Service included and as long as you have comprehensive travel insurance you need not worry. Kenya does not require any specific vaccinations, unless you are coming from an affected Yellow Fever area, in which case you will need a certificate. But your Doctor will be able to give you the most up to date advice.

Kenya Airways Premier World Another observation I have is that the Kenya Airways flight from London is overnight, so if budget allows it may be worth checking with Somak if they can offer a supplement to upgrade to Business class, in order to get a good night sleep. But we have the use of Somak’s lounge on arrival to freshen up and once we get to the Aberdare Country Club we can enjoy a relaxing afternoon (maybe time for a nap!) so I am sure we will soon be raring to go!

I shall be blogging in the months leading up to October with any thoughts that I feel may be worth sharing and I am happy to hear from any fellow travellers.

Make 2017 the year you fulfil the dream of a safari!
